Using Luke 9:57-62 as the basis, brother Paul Hansen delivers a concise lesson on the necessity of perseverance in following Christ. Jesus used a powerful and poignant metaphor, the plowman, to explain to the people around him about pressing toward the goal. Brother Hansen draws our own attention to the skill of modern farmers to plow a straight line, row after row by fixing their eyes on a distant point or landmark; and by keeping their eye on that mark they press on toward the goal as described by the Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:13-14.
This timeless sermon was originally preached at the Mira Loma church of Christ on August 18, 1996 during the morning service.

Part of a three sermon series given at the Canyon Church in Anaheim, CA. the weekend of May 3rd & 4th 2008, “Purity of Doctrine” is the final lesson of the series given by Mike Rosser of The church at Winsted Hill in Franklin, Tennessee. This sermon is intended especially for those young people heading off to college, and a call to “Continue to live in Him… as you were taught” as found in Colossians 2:6-7. Brother Mike explores the subject of “world views”, explaining that our belief system is our world view, and determines how we think about the world and events around us. Young people going off to college are likely to face serious challenges, and Mike exhorts them to consider what they believe and why they believe it in order to stand against the popular notion that all belief systems are equal.
To be pure in doctrine is to keep things the way that God designed them to be, and therefore we must always ask ourselves: What does God want us to think about; to meditate upon?

Using the analogy of a man in prison, the prison of sin, Tom Degeneffe examines Romans 5:1-2 and explores the deep meaning of “being justified by faith”, and how “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” as foreshadowed in the Old Covenant, and fulfilled in the New Covenant by the sacrifice and finished work of Jesus. The concepts of being pardoned and being acquitted in our own justice system are explored, and Brother Tom explains that rather than being pardoned – being excused of an offense, those in Christ are acquitted – discharged completely; not guilty; justified.
Tom is a gifted teacher; able to communicate profound theological concepts of the New Covenant in an easy to understand manner that blesses the listener with insights into the “deeper things of God”. We will be featuring more sermons by him in the future, as we believe that people everywhere will be greatly strengthened, edified, and fed by his study of God’s Word. This sermon was preached during the Sunday evening service at Mira Loma church of Christ on Dec. 28 1997.
This is a wonderful sermon to listen to over and over again, and to share with your loved-ones and friends.
