Using the analogy of a man in prison, the prison of sin, Tom Degeneffe examines Romans 5:1-2 and explores the deep meaning of “being justified by faith”, and how “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” as foreshadowed in the Old Covenant, and fulfilled in the New Covenant by the sacrifice and finished work of Jesus. The concepts of being pardoned and being acquitted in our own justice system are explored, and Brother Tom explains that rather than being pardoned – being excused of an offense, those in Christ are acquitted – discharged completely; not guilty; justified.
Tom is a gifted teacher; able to communicate profound theological concepts of the New Covenant in an easy to understand manner that blesses the listener with insights into the “deeper things of God”. We will be featuring more sermons by him in the future, as we believe that people everywhere will be greatly strengthened, edified, and fed by his study of God’s Word. This sermon was preached during the Sunday evening service at Mira Loma church of Christ on Dec. 28 1997.
